Hot chocolate with spices and chili

Hot chocolate with spices and chili
Ingredients
  • 100 g dark chocolate (70% cocoa)
  • 1 chili pepper
  • 400 ml milk
  • 1/2 vanilla pod
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2-3 tbsp. l. Sahara
  • 50 ml cognac or to taste
  • chocolate chips for decoration (optional)
Pepper chocolate is perhaps the oldest hot chocolate recipe in existence. Even the Aztecs put hot peppers in their xocoatl - the sacred drink of the priests from grated cocoa beans.

Recipe for making hot chocolate with spices and chili peppers

1

Cut the vanilla pod in half lengthwise, scrape out the seeds with a knife. Remove the seeds from the chili pepper or simply break it in half. Grate the chocolate on a coarse grater or break into small pieces of the same size.

2

Put the vanilla seeds along with the pod, chili pepper and cinnamon stick in a saucepan. Fill with milk.

3

Bring almost to a boil, then stir in the chocolate and reduce heat to low. Cook, stirring, for about 10 minutes, until the chocolate is completely dissolved and mixed with milk until smooth. Remove the chili pepper 3-4 minutes before the end of cooking.

4

Remove cinnamon and vanilla pod from saucepan. Add cognac and sugar to taste. Mix well and pour into cups. Garnish with grated chocolate if desired.
