Ingredients
  • Herring - 2 pcs.
  • Milk - 2 cups
  • Eggs - 3 pcs.
  • Mustard - 1 tsp
  • Vinegar - 2 tsp
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tsp
  • Black allspice - 3-5 peas
  • Apples - 2 pcs.
  • Onion - 2 pcs.
  • Potatoes - 4 pcs.
  • Pickled cucumbers - 2 pcs.
Forshmak is a very tasty herring snack.

Cut the herring: remove the insides by making an incision along the abdomen. Rinse thoroughly with water, pat dry with paper towels. Next, make an incision along the ridge and remove the skin. Remove the head, draw out the spine and all the bones. Pour the resulting fillet with milk and leave in a bowl for 4 hours.

Mix hard-boiled egg yolks with mustard, vegetable oil, vinegar and pepper. Mix the mixture thoroughly.

Wash and peel the apples, cut into cubes, removing the core before that. Chop the peeled onion. Cut herring soaked in milk into large slices and pass everything through a meat grinder (herring, onions, apples, egg whites).

Boil the peeled potatoes in salted water until tender. Drain water and mash potatoes with milk. Then, we pass the herring base through a meat grinder, but already together with the yolks and mashed potatoes.

Leave the dish in a sealed container in the refrigerator. 1 hour before serving, lay out in a beautiful plate, forming a "fish". From pickled cucumbers, you can lay out a scale.
